Excessive / Unwanted Hair

Whether its long dark hairs on your legs or fluffy fine hair on your face, excessive growth can be really bothersome.

As a woman, you may also be suffering from an underlying condition known as hirsutism. This is when thick, dark hair will grow in typically unwanted areas such as the arms, chest, face, stomach, back, buttocks or thighs.

Lots of people can be affected by unwanted hair and, unfortunately, traditional shaving just doesn’t cut it sometimes!

Why do we experience excessive hair growth?

Too much hair growth is typically caused by an increase in hormones called androgens. Usually this occurs in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), while certain medicine, anabolic steroids and other hormonal conditions can have an impact too.

How can we get rid of unwanted hair?

At The Nimmo Clinic, we offer laser hair removal. This is a highly effective treatment to reduce the amount of unwanted hair on your body and face, permanently and safely.

Laser hair removal works as it emits light energy that converts to heat energy when it hits its target. This then destroys hair follicles and effectively disrupts hair growth.

We use the state-of-the-art Quanta Duetto system, which uses two laser wavelengths simultaneously for enhanced results compared to other devices on the market.

Am I suitable for laser hair removal?

When you book a laser hair removal consultation with The Nimmo Clinic, we’ll perform a patch test and assess your concerns to confirm whether you are suitable for treatment. The Quanta Duetto device can be used on all skin types, but your hair will need to contain some pigment for it to work effectively.

How many sessions will I need?

For the best results, a minimum course of six laser hair removal treatments is needed. For body areas, these should be spaced six to eight weeks apart, while for the face we’ll leave a four-to-six-week gap between treatments.

When you finish your course, we’ll advise whether more are needed and discuss a maintenance plan.

How long will a laser hair removal session take?

Depending on the area being treated, laser hair removal can take anywhere between 15 to 90 minutes.

Are there any risks to treatment?

Laser hair removal is a safe and effective procedure. You may notice that the area treated is red, slightly swollen or itchy immediately after treatment, but this will calm down after a few hours.
