Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body, identical across species. It attracts and binds water in the skin, providing volume and hydration, but also ‘cushioning’ and supporting collagen and elastin fibres and providing a medium, or carrier, for chemical messages between the cells. Although Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid injectable, it is not strictly a dermal filler as it does not ‘volumise’ as it lacks the cross-links between the HA chains which give dermal fillers their structure. Instead, it stays within the skin for around 28 days, during which time it simulates the production of 4 types of collagen and elastin, thus providing a tightening and lifting effect.
Dr. Martin treats a wide age-range of patients with Profhilo. Some patients in their 30’s will choose to have Profhilo as a preventive treatment to decrease the onset of skin laxity, whereas other patients will opt to have the treatment once skin laxity has taken effect. The treatment is popular with both males and females, and can be good introduction to hyaluronic acid injectables if you are apprehensive about changing the structure of the face. Common areas to treat with Profhilo are: • Face • Neck • Décolletage • Hands • Arms
Profhilo treatment requires a course of 2 applications, 4 weeks apart. Less frequently in the event of more profound laxity, 3 applications may be required for optimal results. The best results are seen 4 weeks following the second application, and results will last 6 months on average.

After Profhilo treatment, patients will typically experience a small red bumps at the injection sites for around 3 hours after treatment, with the potential for mild tenderness in the treated sight for a couple of days. In areas such as the lips and chin, it is likely the swelling and potential ‘stiffness’ can last up to 24-48 hours after treatment. Occasionally, some patients will have a small localised bruises for a few days following treatment which can usually be covered with concealer if required. Dr. Martin Nimmo will explain all the pertinent and rare risks with you at your consultation to ensure you are fully informed prior to proceeding to treatment.

Most people are able to continue with normal activities immediately. The ‘bumps’ from Profhilo will take around 3 hours to visibly reduce, but may be felt for up to 3 days following treatment. Make-up should not be worn for 12 hours You are advised to avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, sun bathing, and extremes of heat or cold for 14 days post treatment. These activities have been found to increase and prolong swelling. Bruising may take a few days to appear, arnica can be helpful in clearing bruising. It is advisable to avoid aspirin and alcohol for 12-48 hours after treatment. Tenderness should settle as swelling goes down. Dr. Martin Nimmo would always advise his patients to contact the clinic in the very unlikely event redness, tenderness, itching or swelling worsens after 3 days, rather than settling.

A course (2 Treatments) starts from £850.
